Dave and I recently had the fantastic experience of traveling to Tonga for a week. Our last night was a cultural celebration, with a traditional Tongan feast and dances from various Pacific cultures. The grand finale was this amazing fire dancer. You know you've had a great year when you've been fortunate enough to see two fire dancers perform in the same year:

Dave and I recently had the fantastic experience of traveling to Tonga for a week. Our last night was a cultural celebration, with a traditional Tongan feast and dances from various Pacific cultures. This performer was hilarious and such a good sport, performing a traditionally female dance, complete with female costume :)

Here's Prarie, outside our flat, the day after the 7.1 earthquake hit Christchurch. You see the damage to the street, which continued through our flat. We were forced to move out once an engineer examined the cracks in our balcony, walls, floors, and ceilings, and told us the building was unsafe for living. One crack ran from the street, presumably beneath the foundation, and straight back through the garden. So we lost our home to an earthquake. Quite a surreal experience for someone who grew up in the earthquake-free Southeastern USA. Thank God for good friends taking us in and offering us their spare room for the next three months before we return to the States.

It's hard to tell where land/sky end and water begins!
