Sad Story

While out cruising for photographs of Bald Eagles last weekend.I recieved a phone call from a friend that had found a bald eagle that could not fly.I was not far from his location so went for a look.When i got there.The eagle appeared to be very stressed and when it attempted to fly it looked like her left wing might be broken.I called the local game warden and he promptly came out and after several attempts captured the bird.
The eagle was transported to Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown,SD where the zoo does a lot of rehabilitaton work mostly with raptors.I spoke with the vet the following day. The bird was x-rayed and no broken bones were observed.Unfortunately the eagle did not survive and most likely died due to a severe form of ASPERGILLOSIS a fungal infection in birds which contract the disease by inhaling airborne mold spores.
I was hoping that the eagle could be rehabilitated and eventualy be released into the wild.We did our best.
