Skull embroidery

I finished this last night and ended up with strained eyes. I have a really hard time working with black. I had embroidered a candle underneath, but decided to take it out this morning. Then I had to wash it to get rid of the candle transfer, so this is a picture of the damp dress. I'm not real happy with this.......especially the varied lengths of the stitches...... but it's a start on getting back into embroidering. In my defense, I really, really need new glasses!

Tuttebel, there will most definitely be new glasses....maybe a few pairs because I just don't know what colour I want! I'd take a picture f the dress for you, but it wouldn't be very interesting. It's just a plain black sleeveless round necked dress....nothing exciting.

Floresita, I've seen your work around Flickr and always been impressed with it. I love browsing your groups and photostream!

Gigi, I'll have to remember that and call it my "Death Becomes Her" dress! Black is my favourite colour, so I've got lots of potential embroidery material!

I am SO loving this piece! Woman! stop with the critic in your head! I will tell you what I tell all my students..."The trick is to be consistantly INconsistant!" Then you don't notice "mistakes"...it is the rhythim of the thread...it just falls into place! Trust me I have been embroidering since I was 17 (I taught myself) and you are doing fine! New glasses or not!

Just do me a favor, duct tape that inner critic to the crux of the wall and stuff her mouth with yarn! : )

I know, I know........I need to shut the heck up with all my defensiveness and apologies. I need to keep reminding myself I don't have to do everything perfectly. No-one else does, so why do I expect that from myself?

Magpie! I have the same harsh inner critic and some times she wins by me not doing ANY art...because I get such anxiety! So I have been learning to kick her out of my head before I begin! It is hard not to feel that pain of NEEDING to be perfect for acceptance...but really people accept us much better when we let our flaws show! : )

Gypsy, if only we could find imperfection as endearing in ourselves as we can in other people. It's hard to overcome the need to appear perfect, but I'm getting there!
