Stewart Island Mason Bay to Doughboy
Rakiura National Park on Stewart Island is the 14th of our national parks. Covering about 157,000ha Rakiura National Park makes up about 85 percent of the island. Stewart Island Mason Bay to Doughboy is part of the notorious southern circuit

The Southern Circuit is regarded as a remote, challenging tramping experience and requires a high level of fitness and good route-finding skills.

You can access the Southern Circuit track by boat via Paterson Inlet/Whaka a Te Wera to Freshwater River landing, Fred's Camp or Rakeahua hut or walk from Halfmoon Bay following the Rakiura Track to North Arm and then on to Freshwater Hut.

Doughboy to Mason Bay Hut
The track climbs steeply up Adams Hill and across the swampy summit before descending through forest to Cavalier Creek on Mason Bay. Walk north, along the beach, to Duck Creek. The track to Mason Bay hut (20 bunks) is marked by buoys.
