Babylegs COMPLETE

The finished product. Total time? Ten minutes. Unless it's your first time, and then you probably spent a lot of time at your computer scratching your head at my directions. LOL. Don't worry. It's not as complicated as it sounds. You'll do wonderful.

Oh I so wish I could sew! I found some Skull socks that I want to turn into baby legs for Keats. But I have no idea how to even turn on a sewing machine. If you ever decide to go into business let me know, I will be your first customer!

This looks like a great project! I love the idea of babylegs, especially now that my son has started crawling, but don't want to shell out $12 + shipping for what amounts to a pair of footless tube socks. I am definitely going to try making some.

stitches13144 I'm not entirely certain what you're referencing? You are at the end of the instructions...

Awesome! I just bought some knee socks to try this out. Do they have to be knee socks or can you buy crew socks for smaller babies? My DD is only 5 months... Could you use trouser socks? How hard is it to use the fuzzy material? If something has a different pattern other than strips do you just match it as close to possible? So many questions. LOL!

I know that different mama's have made these with crew socks. With varying success. Unless you have a particularly small child, it's likely she/he'll outgrow the crew sock size fairly quickly. IMO it's not nearly as forgiving of a size to use the crew socks vs. the knee socks.

I have made some using trouser socks. They work great.

I've never made any fuzzy socks. Although I'm sure other mama's have. I would think special care would need to be taken to ensure that you sew all the layers and not accidently miss something. The cuff may be a little stretchier than normal. But I'm certain they'd be adorable. If you make a pair, post a link to your picture so that other mama's can see how they turn out.

In my experience, a lot of knee socks have a different (often plain solid) pattern on the foot, which means the cuff is going to be slightly different, regardless. I still believe that it is in your best interest just to use the foot portion for the cuff than to try and buy something to match. (Talk about headache and extra expense.)

Obviously, before you start cutting up your foot, take a moment and imagine the finished product. Adjust accordingly.

Thank you so much!! By time I went back for the fuzzy socks they were gone. LOL! Have you ever tried using like2T-4T tights? I was looking for some cute girly colors and not really finding anything that struck me. At Wal-Mart I found some pretty colored thick sock-like tights. I almost just bought them to try. I was curious what the length was like on those. Are they comparable? Longer? Shorter? Hindsight I wish I had just bought them to try. LOL!

This looks so neat, and even with socks not being as cheap as you had mentioned, it still beats the cost of the real deal! I've got to bug hubby to get the sewing machine out of the garage for me . . .

I've noticed that the knee highs this year aren't as cheap as last year. Sometimes you can still find them at the dollar store, though. Might be worth checking there.

I couldn't find anything at the Dollar Store, but I did find knee-highs at Walmart for less than $1.97. They are all Valentine's Day prints, though...so I'm going to check back at Halloween and Thanksgiving for something I could use for boys! Also, there are cute knee-highs in the girls department. I bought two pairs to make a set for an especially skinny little one year old.

Also, I ended up not trimming my "cuff" at all before I folded it and attached it. Maybe my baby is a little on the chubby side (25 lbs and counting), but they seem to fit her better that way. Besides, it measured so close to 3 inches the way it was...I just left it.

Baby Hopes,

Have you ever tried chopping up tights? I am still debating trying. LOL! I thought if someone else had tried it at least I'd have an idea what to expect or whether its worth trying.

I'd love your thoughts. :)
