Henningsvaer is a very beautiful fishing village, full of old buildings, places to eat, boats, reflections, lots of colour, combined with an amazing backdrop of jagged mountains.
BUT on this occasion, they were coyly hiding behind a veil of thick mist !! No matter, the reflections were great, and a shaft of evening sun lit up the boats a treat ! During my short wait for the light, there was a dreadful cacophany of screaming gulls above my head, and the reason ? A Sea Eagle had filched a large tasty salt cod drying on the trestles nearby, and the Gulls wanted their share ! I didn't get a shot of ther bird, no time to change my lens, but I captured this scene anyway !

The Lofoten Islands, again, in Summer.
This is a scene in the Austvagoya area heading towards Straumnes...............I think !!
I have "misplaced " my map and notes, I believe the gremlins are the culprits !
Whatever, it was a gorgeous, very still morning, not a soul around, just this amazing landscape reflected in the crystal clear water of the Ffiord.
I dedicate this to my pal Renae who is half Nordik ! ( half nuts as well, but don't tell her
I said so !! )
A five shot HDR to deal with the hugely contrasty scene.

NOT Norway tonight, more of that later.......
MERKADALE is a small village almost joined to Talisker, a place that many people visit to taste the famous Malt Whisky, at the distillery there, and to take the tour to see the process of making it !
This was taken on a hill just above the distillery from where there are some pretty spectacular views. This was one of those occasions where the light was playing cat and mouse with the cloud, but eventually the sun broke through in just the right place.
The kind of light I love best of all !
No hdr for those who have a phobia !!!!!
My hill walking pals will recognise Stovepipe Gully, Bruaich na Frith, the Basteir Tooth, and a glimpse of Sgurr nan Gillean.
Skye Magic, damn, I love it !!

Nope, this is not SCOTLAND !!
For our Summer holiday, we visited the Lofoten Islands, Norway, for
just five days, the rest was spent around Tromso.
Never have I seen such a beautiful place, meadows full of lush grasses and wild flowers of all colours. The mountains rearing up from the sea.....someone on the TV recently described Lofoten as being like the Isle of Skye "on steroids" !! Another pleasure, was the wooden buildings, a lot of which are painted red. Lofoten is a photographer's paradise, so many opportunities, and uncrowded with a lot of single track roads to explore, off the beaten track.
We went prepared for cold weather...The Lofoten's are North of the Arctic Circle, but it was much milder than we anticipated ! All down to the influence of the Gulf Stream, the same as us !
The Land of the Midnight Sun. I had hoped to capture it, but each time we were somewhere to get the shot, the clouds moved in !
It is so weird though, it really does stay incredibly bright , all through the night !
Mostly the weather was very good to us, too nice sometimes, with very bright blue skies and no clouds, not great for Landscapes.
I would LOVE to go back when Winter still has it's grip, I imagine the light to be to die for !
( Note to self.....I would love to go back ANYTIME !)
This particular shot, .....we had passed by this scene a couple of times, and I didn't like the light, but on this occasion, it was really quite miserable, but with tiny glimmers of sun stabbing through the curtains of rain. EXACTLY the way I wanted it.
I just fell in love with that ramshackle old hut.
A five shot HDR, and a touch of Orton.
This is my INTERPRETATION of what I saw !

How many shots can you shoot from one location ? Well, with the high cost of fuel, not so many of us can afford to travel too far afield these days, so a lot of my images are taken within ten miles of home. I consider myself fortunate to have this scene nearby, though I know that a lot of folk would not like to live here in the highlands, owing to the extreme weather !!
So regulars to my stream will recognise the fact that I have many shots of this wee lochan and the rugged hill of Blaven that sits perfectly in place. Landscape images can be of the same place many times over, but will always be as different as the moods of light and season can conjure up ! You need to plan ahead, to know when the light will be in a certain place, and what effect it will have. Study the maps before you go !
This Lochan often has Whooper (Trumpeter) Swans on it, their call is so strange and wild ! I often see the Golden Eagle soaring overhead here, and I mostly hear the Buzzards mewing as they call to each other, and of course, the ubiquitous Raven with its raucous call ! Otters can be seen down in Torrin, around the shores of Loch Slapin.
I hope my contacts that are suffering with the cold and snowy conditions are well and warm ! ( None here, but the wind is bitter !)
