      Isn't the story that Simpsons characters are named after Portland streets anyway? Funny circularity.

      oh, i'm late to the party, but oh well. simpsons are totally based on portland, cuz matt groening grew up in springfield (natch) and went to lincoln high. Lessee... Terwilliger, Quimby, Flanders, Lovejoy, Evergreen Terrace, um.... Springfield Gorge = Columbia Gorge, and a bunch of other stuff. the tribune did a slow-news-day feature on "Matt Groening's Portland" a while back.
