leopard moth block

leopard moth block by azuregrackle.
My photo of the leopard moth, blown up on a photocopier and transfered to the woodblock using oil of wintergreen. Details outlined in sharpie and coated with a layer of golden shellac before I start to carve.

I was struck by your original photo some days back. Glad you're going to make a print of it.

Oil of wintergreen? I"d never heard of this. Where can a person purchase this?

I got mine at Graphic Chemical

You take a photocopy (the toner is what transfers so print outs don't work) and coat the back of the image using a Q-tip, then place it face down on the block and run it through the press with extra newsprint to absorb the oil and protect the blankets. Oil of wintergreen isn't toxic per se, but can be an irritant to skin. Use in a ventilated area. (Like my kitchen with an open window.)
