Calamari
Today I played with the sunlight and that seemed to really make the
smoke
nice and clear. I look forward to seeing all of your experiments too
:)

where did you first find out about this technique? I'd like to try it myself. I like your shots.
sedonabiscuitblue (64 months ago | reply)
Wow Sharlene, you're certainly getting this technique down pat! Awesome pic. Makes me want to play :)

makes me think of calamari... fascinating structure.

This is really cool! I like it a lot - I saw the article in photojojo how to do this...haven't yet tried myself. ;^)

Thanks N nnn.. nn nn Nick!
Hi Brian :) I cant remember exactly where I first saw this technique.
I dont even know if it was Flickr to be honest, but I was seriously
impressed. It took 3 photo shoots of about 20 pics a piece to finally
get this clarity, but hey... 3 tries isnt so bad! Here is a repost from a
previous photo:

Here is what i read when I first began taking my shots.
www.photocritic.org/2007/artsmoke-photographi ng-smoke/
(at the bottom there's more links on technique from flickr
members of the artsmoke community)
I suggest using the gradient tool in PS. to get a really good
rainbow effect with the colors. Drag it across the image and
voila :) Good luck with your experimenting!

Thanks Ken! I'd love to see your designs! While reading through
todays comments about the smoke I came up with another idea
for this that I cant wait to try tomorrow when the sunlight is in the
perfect spot. Stay tuned!
I have you to thank for the name change Olivia! Sometimes the
proper title eludes me and then someone will say something
and wham.. its crystal clear what I felt or saw when I created the
image.. it definitely had a sea creature feel to it! Thank you!
Hey Martin! I cant wait till you start, you're going to have a blast
with it!

calamari, a fancy name for squid...i wonder why we do this with often icky sounding food, like caviar is fish eggs, escargot is snails, sushi-raw fish...but, then beef is plain old beef where we name it according to the cut....I like the sound of New York Strip, wondering why there isn't a Maryland Strip,lol...anyway, this is marvelous...i will have to try it sometime...forgive me my ramblings, please?

Abstract Art, just for the unusual eye.

Using the title squid just wouldnt have worked as well lol
I agree with the fancy names for icky foods. You wont catch
me eating calamari, caviar or escargot ;) I'm really picky and
squeamish lol Nothing to forgive, your dialogue is always
welcomed, rambling and otherwise. Its nice to have the
company in the evenings. I look forward to seeing your
experiments with this.
Thank you skimble for the invite! I look forward to participating.

This is soooo good. So interesting and pleasing.

@ mychael alchemy - I've often wondered why we name the meat from poultry without any modification - chicken, turkey, goose etc. but when it comes to cows, pigs and sheep it suddenly becomes beef, ham/gammon/bacon, mutton. Odd....

great capture, fantastic colors - a fave!

my aunt used to make a bread with calamari inside it...way too chewy and when I learned what it was, I refused to eat it...I tried escargot, made in butter, you swallow it and all you get is the taste of butter...however, the really expensive caviar does taste quite good..the cheaper ones awful...sushi is pretty to look at, only.
@Peter-you know, you're right...there is Cornish hen..i once dated a Scottish lady and she made the original form of Haggis which is basically boiled sheep organs, liver, lungs, heart all sewn upo in sheep stomach and cooked in oven...smelled good but then i went and got a hamburger instead...
