photog in the flowers

Coulda sworn I had already uploaded this one... but couldn't find it, except in a diptych.

Local photog and pilot Dean Cully in a springtime field of buttercups.

I would die to be in a place like this, awfulsara.
Marvelous colors, perfect dof and the most poetic photo on the subject.

How did he decide which flowers to shoot? And how did you get those flowers in the foreground to stand up so perfectly for you?
This composition is amazing. The reflection in the lens is stunning, the shallow depth of field makes the flowers seem to stretch into infinity - with a subtle hint of horizon just beyond. Absolutely stunning.

the reflection in the lens makes the picture!!

:) This is one of my faves too.

Deciding what flowers to shoot was rather fun. So many options. I actually haven't seen any of his flower shots from that day, but this is what I shot (flower-wise).

That wonderful wonderful yellow is amazing. Such a lovely contrast to the gray that makes up the rest of the photo.

I wasn't so very impressed with my results. One of these days I'll scan some of the more promising negs and try to make a good print. Note the yellow cast on my hands, especially... all that yellow reflected light.

    Amazing yellow! Beautiful!

Man what I would do for a Pentax 67... I mean except for paying for one.

  28. Sara Heinrichs (awfulsara) (85 months ago | reply)

It was pretty hazy that day, Dean, weird light. The flowers were SO incredibly bright and reflective (waxy) that good exposures were difficult.

Sadly, no more green and flowers for us for awhile. :| Phooey.

  35. Coffee_Break (85 months ago | reply)

I could swear the DOF should be more shallow with f3.5 here.
Really great picture anyway and I love his hat.

I don't want to describe how much i like it... because words will not be enough !

  39. Peter In Shanghai (85 months ago | reply)

I had to think about whether to add this to my faves ..... for about 0.0001 sec!

I'm not a skillful enough writer to describe how amazing this is, so I'll just say "amazing".

Used Pentax 67 cameras and lenses are reletively inexpensive these days in the age of digital, and the optics are excellent. I find the combination of very big camera and really small airplane to be a suitable match.
