Eklutna Russian Orthodox Church
This Russian Orthodox Church in Eklutna Alaska is located about 26 miles North of Anchorage on the Glenn Highway. The Eklutna Church's cemetery has several dozen "spirit houses." These are a small house, perhaps 4-5' long by 2' high by 1 1/2' wide, which is built for the purpose of giving a new home to the soul of the deceased. The spirit houses are painted in the traditional colors of the deceased's family and are quite often colorful.
