panamalai parvati

One of the oldest existing Murals of South India, the beautiful damsel standing under an umbrella watching the dance of her beloved. Pallava king Rajasimha holds the authorship.

The hindu myths states about the three states of being - The slumber, the dream and the awaken state. The Koorma puranam speaks about the story of vasumana where the three states are identified by the inseperable trio - Narayana as Ananta sayee in slumber visualising Nataraja the fully awakened state while the benign form of the dancing god manonmani stands in the middle state gazing his dance. This painting is the available fragment depicting that scene where the divine lady is standing as an ALASYA SUNDARI under an umbrella dreaming about the dance within and watching the same in front also.
