New Deal fresco murals painted by Howard Cook in 1939 run along all 4 walls in the lobby of the United States Post Office-Courthouse. They depict "San Antonio's Importance in Texas History".
The last mural on the south wall (left) depicts the death of Ben Milam in Samuel Maverick's arms, after leading his men in capture of San Antonio.
The first mural on the east wall (right) depicts Colonel William Travis drawing the line in the dirt with his sword and asking for volunteers to stay and fight at the Alamo.
