Catalina Island sits just off the coast of Southern California. The air in winter is sometimes clear enough for the island to be seen from shore, and on a perfect night the sun sets over the island.
The image is a blend of two bracketed exposures of the same subject--one exposure to highlight the sand and sky and the other for the rocks and waves. Taken at Crystal Cove State Park in Orange County, CA.
This photo was taken on January 16, 2006 using a Canon PowerShot S2 IS.

This is a very good picture.
