NUDE SHOES AND HAPPINESS

NUDE SHOES AND HAPPINESS

I love Alexander McCall Smith's writing, especially his No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. The seventh book is called Blue Shoes and Happiness, and whilst her blue shoes make Mma Makutsi happy, or not as it transpires as they turn out to be rather impractical and do not fit very well, my new nude shoes bring joy to me. Now I just need to wait for spring to arrive so they can get an outing!

Ah, the small pleasures of life ... as my mum would say.

THE WORLD LIGHTS UP WHEN WE TOUCH

THE WORLD LIGHTS UP WHEN WE TOUCH

“I had forgotten how much light there is in the world, till you gave it back to me.”

~ Ursula K. Le Guin - A Wizard of Earthsea ~

So here’s the story:

When we had our bathroom redone last year my husband wanted to add all sorts of fancy coloured lighting but I was not happy with the idea. It’s a bathroom, a relaxing space, and not a nightclub. And I definitely did not want any permanent disco lights that I will be sick of in a few month’s time. So we found a compromise, these little LED balls for £1 each that change colours when they are switched on. All that is needed is a battery and they can be put on a shelf, no electrical wiring required. And let me tell you, they look rather nice, I have to admit, whilst relaxing in a hot bath. A bit like a light-therapy spa treatment.

When it came to this week’s theme for The Rubicon Project which is “Illuminate”, hubby suggested I should take a photo of them for my entry. So the camera came out and the lights were switched on. Unfortunately the shot I had in my mind did not translate to film without some photoshop help. And it is about photography and not PS lens flare filters, right? So it is a no-go for that particular purpose, back to the drawing board. However, in the making I decided to turn it into a conceptual abstract shot instead and voila, here’s the finished product.

This one's for you baby, you're the one who lights up my world!
