Norma Bissaker and Frank Bissaker on their wedding day, 1941

Studio portrait of the wedding party at the marriage of NX57392 Lieutenant Frank Sherral Bissaker and Norma Sherrie Bissell. The attendants are Horrie Bissell and Nita Bissell and an unnamed flower girl.

Lt Bissaker, a member of the 2/13 Battalion, was killed in action in Egypt on 29 October 1942. Lt Bissaker is listed on the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial.

    This is so similar to many other wedding photos from this time - including of our family members! Nice that something so personal made it into the AWM collections!

    Thanks annieinparis16 we do have lots of personal photographs in the collection, not just your 'military' sorts of photos (although of course we have a lot of those too!). Sometimes the personal photographs are followed by sadness as the soldiers did not return from war. I often think these photographs capture a lovely happy moment and this may be the last visual memory a family has. See this image for a photograph like that cas.awm.gov.au/photograph/P04495.004

    It's definitely hand colored, we take color photos so much for granted nowadays. This photo demonstrates the best of a photographer's talent in the pre-kodacolor days (Kodacolor came into use in 1942).
