A very popular play area for kids in West Beirut. Since the photo was taken the park has been closed several times. It was closed indefinitely during and after the 2006 war with Israel after several dozen cluster bomblets were dropped into and around the park by the IAF. It took UN specialists almost 3 months to clear the area in and around the park of Israeli cluster bomblets. The attack on West Beirut by the IAF was a surprise given that the area is not associated with Hezbollah. The IAF also targetted several other spots including an old lighthouse and signal lights used for ship navigation.
