Week 12 - Darker

Week 12 - Darker

I didn’t manage to take and post a photograph on Sunday. I had a good excuse: it was my 27th birthday. Also, I was very busy, as I still am, and will be at least until April.

I’ve gotten to a point when I don’t feel very interested in self-portraits anymore (at least my own), which is what has always happened to me with these projects before. I am still intrigued by the concept of the self-portrait, but maybe I’m just not cut out to make them. We’ll see.

Week 10 - Stars

Week 10 - Stars

A repetition of an older photo of mine, with different light conditions and a different model. This was taken in the middle of the night. It was pitch black, but you can still see some residual light coming from the street lamps outside my bedroom.

I’ve always been fascinated by stars. When I was little my mother would take me to the planetarium (because you can’t see the stars very well in the city night sky) and I would gaze up at the endless dome of mystery, wondering what was out there. I still wonder.

Week 9 - Magnolia

Week 9 - Magnolia

Magnolias are interesting trees. Every year they erupt in flowers, earlier than most other trees, and without showing any leaves, and stay like that for one or two glorious weeks. Then the flowers start falling and the sidewalks are carpeted with petals, and green leaves appear, and they blend in with every other tree for the rets of the year. They’re a sight for sore eyes in the winter cold, and a reminder that spring will soon be here.

I’ve never taken a photograph of a magnolia that managed to capture this ephemerality and beauty. This one is no exception, but it had been raining and I managed to go outside just at the moment the sun was breaking through the clouds, only to get covered again minutes later. So, in a way, fitting.

Week 8 - Cinematic

Week 8 - Cinematic

Movies were swimming inside my head this week, and apparently it seeped into this photo. It wasn’t intentional, although all the light tricks were done in the moment (not post-processed). Actually, this was supposed to be a test shot, and I took many other photos after this one, but there’s something strange and haunting about this one. I like that it doesn’t mean anything, that it’s ambiguous, that it could tell many different stories.

The weather was warmer this week. I’ve been longing for Spring for months, let’s see how long it takes to get here.
