One of the grand things I had forgotten about pets was that they are a joy to have waiting for you when you come home. Christmas night, I unloaded the car to the back porch, as is my habit. I took the trash bin out to the roadside. I turned on the porch light so I could find my key, and saw two pair of eyes watching me.
It was good to come home.
