Book Sculpture

    Newer Older

As a librarian who is also a long time fan of SG1 this sculpture had me wondering if this might really be a gateway to a library in a distant galaxy!

The name of this installation is "Good as Gold" by the artist Donald Lipski and is found at the new Country Club Plaza branch of the Kansas City Public Library.

The Shifted Librarian, kmroddy, ZeCHAOS, paulgorman, and 61 other people added this photo to their favorites.

It is a little deceptive. I am standing inside and the sculpture is inside. Nearly everything that is seen in the window is a reflection of me, the sculpture and the room behind me. However the trees and the "floor" lights are actually on a patio outside the window.

Thanks everyone! I find it interesting that the cropped version for the Squared Circle group pool has gotten more interest that the full version. Maybe there is mystical powers in the squared circle after all! LOL!

I like this version much better. That's you hiding behind a library cart? I thought it was the cleaning lady - you know the way *their* carts always having things sticking out at odd angles.

Oh go ahead - if you want to be a Mason, I'm not going to try to talk you out of it. As I recall, the rings the Daughters of the Order of the Eastern Star get to wear aren't any worse than most school rings.

No book cart involved, just my round self crouched down to center the circles, a leather winter coat, a big purse, a big camera bag and a book bag. It made quite a pile and rendered me unrecognizable which was fine as far as I was concerned.

Your cute self. I'm about to embark on a series of self portraits now that I'm narrowing in on how to use the 'remote capture' feature of my camera (and now that I have a fabulous new blouse that turns me into the 'lady with lacy sleeves' Joni Mitchell wrote about in 'Raised on Robbery' from Court and Spark).

So many photos to take - so little time....

The sculpture is magnificent. I wish there were one just like it at my workplace bookstore.
