After abandoning a canyoneering hike in Red Breaks, I slogged back to my snowbound car at the Harris Wash trailhead. It snowed heavily for about two and a half hours before the storm broke at sunset.
Fearing the now sticky desert roads, I waited out the storm before deciding to make a run for it instead of spending a night stranded. This stunning view was the only thing that could force me to stop on the sketchy, 20-mile drive back to Highway 12.
