Boulder Field - Hickory Run State Park by Arun Sundar

Boulder Field - Hickory Run State Park

This is one of the places I have been yearning to go for a long time now. Boulder field at Hickory run state park, Pennsylvania. I once visited this area with Amar but it was too late (dusk) then and the weather was bad - it snowed like hell. This time, the 3.5 mile dirt road drive wasn't all that bad.

Imagine a wide river stream, with no water but just boulders. That is boulder field. The place seemed to be a true relic of the past. This area, declared as aNational Natural Landmark, has remained relatively unchanged for more than 20,000 years. Because of its flatness and absence of vegetation, the Boulder Field appears striking. Photographs do no justice to this place.

Just to understand the magnificence of this place (and for scale!), see the size of people to the right of the photograph.

Hawk Falls - Hickory Run State park by Arun Sundar

Hawk Falls - Hickory Run State park

Hawk Falls is in Hickory Run State park, in Northeast Pennsylvania. Its about a 3/4 mile hike to see the falls. The falls occur when Hawk Run, which is 40 feet above Mud Run, empties into the lower creek at a three-sided canyon.

The water cascades down the center of the canyon, ever widening, from one ledge to the next and empties into a deep pool of crystal-clear water.

My favorite part is the rocks in the stream that the falls lead to.

P.S: I tried my new ND0.9 filter and it works like a charm. Love it already!

Luray caverns, Virginia by Arun Sundar

Luray caverns, Virginia

Mirrored pool, with nice reflections of the caverns.

This beautiful spring of water called Dream Lake that has an almost mirror like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites. This illusion is often so convincing that people can't see the real bottom. It looks quite deep, as the stalactites are higher above the water, but at its deepest point, the water is only around 20 inches deep
