i really didn't want to take these down from the hallway display. i figured their moms might love them though. so i did.

love these. Wanted to click on them for a bigger version.

I enjoyed going into my son's school to see all the artwork but the practice is not encouraged in middle school ;-)

      1. turn paper vertical
      2. fold down the center/crease, then open
      3. name on back
      4. draw overlapping leaves
      5. color w/ shades of greens and yellow. blend. crayon.
      6. dab purple, white (and blue..but i was out) tempera on one side of the fold (be a crazy control freak and give a clear demo of where to dab)
      7. fold over and rub to transfer to create symmetry. like an ink blob
      8. open.
      9. let dry
      10. when dry, add a stem w/ green crayon
      11. add more yellows and greens w/ crayon
      12. add yellow on iris
(it helps a ton to show them pictures of real irises and/or real irises) :)

      crop
double mat on greens, purples or whites.

      Wow! Awesome little artists!
Thank you for the "how to"...I will have to try this with my daughters...I know they'll love it.

yay! do it. i can't wait to see your results. i had them do this on a pale green paper. i think light blue would be good to. white's ok, just not great since you can't see the "tint" of the white then....

what is it about kindergarten and art? the art of the kids themselves, the art on the walls, on the classroom. I think that kids in kindergarten eat and breath art the way animals graze grass (all the time, without thinking) in the serengeti
