The long-necked shining fungus beetle Diatelium wallacei (Scaphidiidae)

    Newer Older

    Sarawak, Borneo
remarkably, this beetle seems looks a lot like some leaf-roling weevils, e.g. species of the genus Trachelismus

That's a pretty weird one! Any other angles? The one's in Mada are pretty flighty, difficult to get close to, I have to ambush them at night. Funnily I didn't see any giraffe weevils in Malaysia

      how strange!
this somehow reminds me of a famous painting of Salvador Dali called "Giant Flying Mocca Cup with an Inexplicable Five Metre Appendage" which I saw yesterday in Basel.
