The Neighborhood Owls

In the winter of 2007, a pair of great horned owls lived at the top of Bernal Hill. On April 9th, one of these amazing creatures was found dead. And today, July 19th, the body of the other was found as well. The first died of an avian herpes virus. We still don't know what killed the second. These owls were great ambassadors of nature to our hill, and we'll miss them.

In the summer, a new great horned owl has appeared in the same grove.
