~ Wishes ( Done )

Love these swirly little milis....they have such energy! Makes me want to dance. :)

I started this as a painting last year. It's my oldest daughter, Elana at her birthday party just about to blow the candles. She's really been patiently waiting for me to finish the painting, but I surprised her with a mosaic instead. ( Lola's mommy) ( 27 hours)

I think I'll call it, "Wishes."

I am reminded of fireworks when I look at this mosaic. Could be due to the colors you've used (I love the milli too!!) but there's something about it that just says fireworks to me! Each time I've looked at it (this is my third visit!) that's what I think of. It's wonderful and I know she will love it. You are awesome!

Ramona, this was so quick, - much larger pieces and no open eyes. The eyes alone usually takes me 10 hours. I still might have to change the nose, there's a little light spot/reflection that IS on the photo, but I don't like it on the mosaic.

Carol: absolutely gorgeous! I have run out of superlatives and synonyms for 'spectacular' commenting on your amazing body of work, so I am going to have to start reusing them....

Here are a few if the infinitely numerous things I love about this artwork. I absolutely love the mood of the piece. It looks looks a momentous occasion with all the emotion you captured. The joy in your daughter's face is abundant and contagious. The lines of the piece are really elegant and gorgeous. And the color is perfect. I love the dominant orange/blue complementary palette. and the black background punctuated with the magical mille in wispy magnificently fading shapes. But beyond the line, color, and shapes, I love that you captured the exacting detail of her face -- mostly in luscious oranges and peaches. But the left edge of her face in shadow is the show-stopper to me, specifically how you captured the detail of her face in the shadow; it's so exquisite. I love the details, like the star tattoo (I saw on another photo in your Wishes set that that's what it is). Overall the feel I get from the piece is love and the tenderest motherly admiration. What a wonderful way of tangibly expressing this in your gift.

I put this as one of my 2 personal favorites of all time from your amazing opus. The other one which I hold in highest esteem is your masterpiece "Rainbow Landing" (which I was so sad to see you mention you sold that one). Given the 52 comments from so many accomplished mosaic artists above, whose work I also respect and admire, you clearly have the mosaic community in agreement that your pieces are timeless art. Your pieces are a study in the tenets of art, and the more I study them, the more your works speak to me.

I like how her down turned eyes, which look towards the unseen birthday cake, seem to contain her within a psychological space - the space of secret wishes.
