I remember on September 11th, driving to get my child from school, and just holding him tight. He didn't understand why I was crying. My heart and condolences go out to you.

Tomorrow will be hard, explaining to them what they've witnessed on the TV. It was hard enough the day after 9/11. Hope you get home eventually tonight.

It is my experience that children are much more understanding of hate and death thank we give them credit for.

Actually you should reassure your children that everything is OK. My two boys were scared to death after the 9-11 attack. My wife and I assured them that we would make sure that their safety was assured. They were TERRIFIED.

Kids seem to be much better at taking care of this than adults. We learn, growing up, that death is this horrible bad evil thing, and not part of normal life - we compartmentalize it - and attach huge amounts of negative emotion to it. Most kids haven't yet learned that from their parents, TV, movies, whatever. In my experience they are much more flexible than adults, and much more than we credit them for.

It was just to avoid the situation where somebody worries about their parents or siblings at home, insists on going home to check and then finds nobody in. Transport was chaotic.

Well that is exciting information. I wonder if the mention has it in the correct context. Can you let me know the exact quote please.

Thanks for CCing this image. I used it on my blog to accompany a post about the way my emotional reaction to media has changed since I've become a parent.
