Aurora Borealis / Northern lights in Iceland

Aurora Borealis / Northern lights in Iceland

Great weekend of Solar flares which gave us a very nice show in the sky. If you enlarge you can see a falling Meteoride in the middle of the picture.

This is at Thingvellir in Iceland.

Carl Zeiss 15mm/2.8 - ISO 800, f/2.8, 20 sec exposure.

Fjallsárlón, Iceland

Fjallsárlón, Iceland

From a phototrip with my friend Hrannar to East of Iceland.

Fjallsárlón is a glacier lake at the south end of the Icelandic glacier Vatnajökull. Fjallsjökull which is part of the bigger glacier reaches down to the water of the lake and some ice-bergs are drifting by on its surface.

It is situated not far from Skaftafell National Park and the better known glacier lake Jökulsárlón. From the glacier lake Breiðárlón a little river flows into the Fjallsárlón.

Glacier Lagoon, Jökulsárlón

Glacier Lagoon, Jökulsárlón

Jökulsárlón (literally "glacial river lagoon") is a large glacial lagoon in southeast Iceland, on the borders of Vatnajökull National Park. Situated at the head of Breiðamerkurjökull, it evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the Icelandic glaciers. The lagoon now stands 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) away from the ocean's edge and covers an area of about 18 km2 (6.9 sq mi). It recently became the deepest lake in Iceland at over 248 metres (814 ft) depth as glacial retreat extended its boundaries. It is considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland. [Wikipedia]
