I was in Hunts Point with a reporter from New York Times when Takeesha called me. She sometimes works as an escort, and was coming from a job "entertaining a bunch of awful men." She asked for me to come over and talk.
She retold us how she was put onto the streets as a prostitute by her mother at the age of 11, raped at 13 and fell into addiction.
“It’s sad when it’s your mother, who you trust, and she was out there with me. But you know what kept me through all that? God. Whenever I got into the car, God got into the car with me.”
