Classic Riders: Bushwick, Brooklyn

    Newer Older

The four guys are the Classic Riders, a club devoted to the old Schwinn Sting Ray bikes. They are the fourth Puerto Rican Schwinn bike club I have found in Bushwick. All four of the bikes are gems, beautifully restored. You can see these guys cruising down the streets of Bushwick on weekend afternoons.

I was able to get them in the shade for a quick shot, hopefully I will get a much better photo later.

Who knew? I'm nearly fifty and I remember wanting a Schwinn Orange Crate bike w/ the gear shifter when I was young (in the early 70's). Its amazing that any survived to be restored. A couple of those guys look my age.

I used to ride them as a kid as well.

There is a huge cult following of Schwinns in the Latino community here in New York. The stingrays are particular favorites. Check out the rest of the series. One guy in particular, Robin, has two basements and about 100 old schwinns. Amazing stuff.

I knew I should have kept my Schwinn. It was the best bike for delivering newspapers. Nice photo.

love the smaller front tires, too. kind of a low-rider bike. one of my boys will go bananas to see this!
