This is what our Christmas tree looks like way out of focus.

Bumping this up to the front of my stream. This is my submission to Moo's Super Duper Holiday Card Competition.

      di...thank you.

charlaine...haha. i guess this isnt the kinda pic you want to stare at too long with your eye the way it is. this might start to look focused to you. ;)

      Wow! Very cool!!

    13. Claytonia (67 months ago | reply)

Wow! The wild bokeh makes it look like the tree's all covered in giant tiddly winks. This rocks. :-)

I love this too! Oh, how I wish I had a tree too. I grew up with one (New Year's tree) but now customs forbid me to put one up. Well, maybe i can have some fun with Hanukah lights.

    20. Claytonia (67 months ago | reply)

Pete, are you serious? Did you never get a chance to play with the brightly-colored plastic discs known as tiddlywinks? (Yes, apparently it's actually one word.)

They came in two sizes, and you used one of the bigger discs to press down on one edge of a small disc, making it jump in the air, ostensibly landing in a cup for points. But it was more fun to aim for the eyes of a sibling, the back of an unsuspecting family pet, or the openings in a heater grate. :-) They were also a first-class choking hazard, which may be why they fell out of favor in the past few decades.

Check out this stock image of tiddlywinks, which should make clear why I thought of them when I saw your cool pic.

Your bokeh out of focus lights is better than mine.
      Wah-wah.
Don't say its because of the Canon vs Nikon though, because it isn't.
      Hehe

Extremely beautiful. We haven't set up any Christmas decorations let alone a tree, yet, but when we do, I'm going to try to do this effect. So cool!

    24. {leah} (67 months ago | reply)

wow this is a fabulous effect. so much fun...

    25. JVanSweden (67 months ago | reply)

    26. fakeyouth (66 months ago | reply)

Wow how did you do this?

    27. arkworld (66 months ago | reply)

      thanks everyone.

imapixy...you have a dSLR so it's fairly easy to do. make sure your christmas tree lights are on and just stand about 10-15 feet away from it. set your lens to manual focus and focus on something close to you...such as your outstretched hand or something like that. voila. :)

    28. fakeyouth (66 months ago | reply)

      Ah i see thankyou :)
I have been trying and i only just got my dSLR yesterday (christmas obviously).
What settings should i put it on at the moment it is
      1/500 F.56 ISO800

    45. mapgoblin (56 months ago | reply)

      no, it can't be already.,

wait that's odd, it showed up as new even though it was replaced.

    46. Jani Mouse (56 months ago | reply)

Um, wow! This is really really cool.

Question from the clueless--how do you "bump" an older item back to the beginning or your stream?

    47. arkworld (56 months ago | reply)

      thanks guys & gals.

mapgolbin...it didnt show up new because of that. i moved it. :)

jani....if you click on edit next to the taken on date over on teh right side, and then click on posted on date, you can modify it there to move it to where ever you like. in my case, i changed the posted on date to today's date(current time).
