Fisherman's wharf (man vs. nature)

Giacometti?
The sea was raging.
<-- Tanah Lot is about 120 degrees to the left from here, exactly opposite the cliff on which the fisherman is.
I had not even thought of it, but can now see the resemblance.
Fisherman's wharf (man vs. nature) by ... Arjun.
Even as the storm was coming in he continued with his fishing.

I was lucky as I broke into a run after taking this shot and managed to prevent my precious camera and equipment from getting drenched. Hope he managed some shelter too.

This is the cliff opposite the famous Tanah Lot temple.

I love how you kept so much of the sky in frame - -really allows us to see how small everything else really is, in perspective to it.

Like the drama of the sky as well as the waves. The dimensions are great in this huge expanse with the human element adding context and a sense of scale.

Interesting tones, and great capture of the subject. The grainy appearance adds to this shot, and the framing of a big sky is perfect for the dark figures you have in the foreground of the picture.

I like this a lot. I love the sepia tones.
It is a very unusual composition. It seems not to balance but by focusing on the waves and the figure fishing it works very well.

Not quite a ten, but getting close, though I am not really sure what would improve it.

Nice shots and amazing tones here.
Why did you choose sepia instead of black and white? I think the later would be more effective.
Also, if you can, I'd dodge out the rocks a bit. They're so black right now and I'm sure there are some tones hiding in there.

Green Putty In My Armpit  Pro User  says:

Good capture. Got the shot at the right moment and the sense of scale is very good.

In terms of composition, there seems to be heaps of empty space which don't seem to add to the image. I believe more of the sky and sea can be cropped out to focus more on the person. PP wise, there seems to be too much sepia which affects the contrast of the image.

From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 5/7 ranking.

Oliver Lavery says:

Very dramatic image. I like the composition, personally, it's unconventional but all the more interesting for it. Perhaps you could crop it more, but there's a pleasing balance I feel in this that you might lose. You might crop a little off the top to make it a perfect square.

The toning is a little wierd, the whites are very colored. It's not bad though, the golden color definitely adds to the impact of the image.

From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 6/7 ranking.

This composition works as is in my mind. The vastness of the sky enhances the sense of scale. That little person with his arms upraised seems all the more dwarfed by the grandness of his surroundings for it.

In fact, I can't see anything to make suggestions on. Well done all around. :)

From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 6.5/7 ranking.

I tried to find imperfection in this picture, was trying to find a reason to mark this 0.5 lower, but could not find anything wrong with it.

I love pictures where the scale of nature over man is shown, the brooding clouds overhead, and the mountains in the background.

Never quite sure of sepia as a colouring, but in this shot it works so well.

From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 7/7 ranking.

Excellent capture, like the scale the fisherman gives to the shot. Composition is good, though, might be interesting to chop about an inch off the top to see what that gives.

original_ann, yaznotjaz, Vega11 - I felt the sky was very important in giving a sense of scale to this shot.

This American Wife - It could? Maybe I should try and complete it. :-)

100 Points & - Thanks a lot for your comments, rating and critique.

fiat luxe - Yes, it is a duotone.

Hello Doodle! - I don't quite understand the point you are trying to make.

molly_merrick - The sepia was more dramatic so I went for it. The rocks are meant not to have tones.

Sergio Lubezky, (Rimbaudian), JuanJ - Have added it to the pool.

wibing - I don't agree with you, the space is what adds the scale and drama to the shot. If it was just the figure it would be another boring silhouette.

tomato umlaut - What is helter skelter about it? How does it take away from the composition?

miss_kcc - :-)
