hello friends (new york friends especially)!

i will be giving a talk at columbia this sunday the 26th as part of the appendix lecture series. the talk is titled "honesty competitions" and and will examine (amongst other things) carles' concept of "meaningful," bas jan ader's tears v.s. laurel nakadate's tears, pigeon-toed girls from fashion blogs, momus's "anxious interval," the nature of nostalgia, personal brands, "zany anthropology," michael cera and maltstream cinema, "this is so bad it's gone past good and back to bad again," awkwardness, and jonathan richman.
