For the curious: the graphic was made using Inkscape, an open-source vector graphics program that does an amazing job converting images into duotone graphics. The etching was done by the fine folks at Squid Labs in Emeryville using an Epilog desktop laser-cutter. See www.instructables.com/ex/i/55217172B5A910289B 50001143E7E506/ for the glorious details. If anyone wants the graphic files, I put them on my blog.

Awesome. I remember back in the day when the first Mac 128K came out there was a company that was refinishing them in camouflage, woodgrain, marble, etc. I've always wanted one of them. Now I want my Titanium laser etched, though maybe with an Escher design. I have always been told to constantly upgrade my skills. Shouldn't I also continually upgrade my envy?

hmm, SO CAN YOU DO THIS ON A PLASTIC MACBOOK?
anyone with experience?
Steve Rhodes (72 months ago | reply)
Not sure if it work or at least look as good on a plastic mac.
If I had known you could do this, I might have paid extra for a macbook pro (though I really wish they'd make a 12" model).
incidentist (72 months ago | reply)
Yes, you can do it on a plastic macbook: www.bulthaup.org/colin/grafix/2006-02-06 Stuff/mid/DSC_5784.JPG
You can't tell, but those shapes are etched too. This was done at the same time as mine.
