thanks, rodrigo. we managed to miss most of
the major storms on our route, even though we
could see them floating along the horizon. we
definitely counted our blessings here.

darkness of it , so menacing! Think you
would have remembered going through that one!

was this taken on Sunday? lets see, September
3rd? If it was, my family actually drove
through it on our way to St George, and it
was NOT FUN! You wouldn't forget it if you
drove through it. It almost felt like a
tornado, there was strong wind, hail, rain,
and lightning all around you. Exciting and
Frightening at the same time. Anyway, your
pic does amazing justice to the storm. Nice
shot, I was thinking I should try to get a
pic of some lightning, but I didn't dare take
my eyes off the road to try and help
navigate! Amazing!

@kat: yeah, i probably would remember
something like that. and thanks.
@piper: (not that i wanted to, but) i've
inspired cursing! wow. thanks.
@djm and inky: thanks! =]
@shellbean: actually, this was from august
11th, when we first took off for kansas (see
the "taken on" date, bottom right).
i'm just uploading it now because 1) we had
to wait for the moving truck to show up with
all our stuff in it, 2) i had to set it all
up (including building the computer desk. yay
ikea!), 3) i had to find enough time (i.e.,
stay up waaaay too late at night) to process
them all. and yeah, i can only imagine what
driving through a storm like that must have
been like--it's probably best that you kept
your eyes on the road. wait until there's a
thunderstorm at your house to get those.

@penelope's loom: it really was incredible.
quite the cloudburst.
@brittanys: actually, we are in kansas now,
so i'm looking forward to our first trip out
of state so i can use that line. and
amazingly enough, our entire drive was under
stormy skies, but we never got more than just
a bit of rain at any given time. we were
quite blessed.
@everyone else: thanks (and danke!,

well, this clearly isn't straight out of the
camera. i did adjust the curves some, a bit
of sharpening...can't think of much else.
adjusting the curves brought just enough
weight to the rain--all that rain really was
there, the upped contrast just brought it out
more.
and yeah, it does look a bit like a
tornado.

wow! still can't believe the reception this
one is getting.
@mr. mark: thanks...i was inspired by a
dear friend of mine from my last place of
employment, who is also a talented
photographer. whenever he gave us a copy of a
picture he snapped, he would always add a
thin black border with a permanent marker and
mount it on nice paper. the black border made
all the difference, imo.
@psycrow: i agree--i really like the way
the road turned out as well. this is probably
the most involved processing i've ever done,
so i'm happy that you like the way it turned
out as well.
@robby: no kidding--as long as it fell
somewhere else, i'm okay. =]
@faria: thanks...it was quite the scene to
behold

no kidding, lisa. in the two months we've
been here, we've seen more than our fair
share of severe weather. the tornado sirens
(euphemistically dubbed the "severe
weather alert") have even been sounded a
couple of times. no tornados yet, though. =]
i have loved the (severe) weather here,
though, so no complaints!

Great image rik! Powerful yet beautiful. As
far as crit on the image, perhaps burning
along the line between the sky and ground
will hide the level adjustments. Not a bad
thing by the way, but you said you like crits

it in might look great. i'll have to give it
