If you knew anything about the plague, you
too would be dressed like that to handle the
sick people. It is either that or you die.
The bubonic plague ended up wiping out 1/3 of
Europe's population, and many people were
left abandoned and unburied because of fears
of becoming infected. The disease can also be
aeoresolized as well so simply breathing it
in could give you the second stage of the
disease.
