Pure Magic

Pure Magic

When I saw this picture from a fellow Flickr contact, I headed straight for Pfiffer Beach on my trip to Big Sur. It didn't disappoint--the sunset light was absolutely jaw-dropping. So many wonderful angles. So much magic. I felt privileged to see it.

Two, at Skipping

Two, at Skipping

Wendy and Nick are hilarious. Like so many of the wonderful brides and grooms I get to work with, they can't keep a straight face for anything. And they like the silly photos--the ones, like this, that feel most like them. Unposed. Unguarded. That makes me happy.

And Nick's face cracks me up.

The light was glorious this particular day. We had a ton of fun up in Forest Park. I can't wait for their wedding this summer!

In Love

In Love

I spent eleven hours with Mandy and Paul on their wedding day, starting at a church, going to Mount Tabor for portraits, then off to the Adrianna Hill Ballroom downtown for the reception. It was an incredible day. They have a huge, supportive group of friends and family (over 400 people attended), and are some of the most genuinely sweet, caring and wonderful people I've ever met. And Mandy seems to be in love with light just as much as me!

Instead of the misty, cloudy, cold day we were expecting for a December wedding, we were blown away with a golden sunset to rival anything I've ever seen in Portland.

Congratulations to these two lovebirds. I'm incredibly privileged to get to share unforgettable days like these with truly extraordinary people.

Twirl, darling!

Twirl, darling!

Holly and Greg were married back in October at a beautiful victorian mansion in north Portland. The gazebo was spectacular fun with the checkered dance floor and soaring ceilings. It was a beautiful night!

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Submarine

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Submarine

Finding this beach was a complete, if intentional, accident.

Between Bodega Bay and Fort Bragg on the California coast, I could tell the sunset had a really good chance of being amazing. The clouds were gorgeous, and after days of just sun and blue, I was excited to see what would happen.

Right before sunset, Nathan and I hit a strange, posh, private section of the coast where parking permits were $6 in the places you could go as a member of the public. Oh, and all gates were locked at sunset. Nevermind. We continued north, hoping the Mendocino area would be more accommodating. Just past the center of town, we pulled off to the first public beach access, and wandered down the path to see this.

It looks to me like a bizarre combination of the sails of Prince Caspian's Dawn Treader, and a submarine at the surface. The cove itself was beautiful, and maybe a handful of locals and their puppies came down for a sunset walk. It went from silvery/goldish blue to this over the space of an hour. Altogether extraordinary.
