I am continually amazed that, wherever I travel in Canada, I get asked if I "brought any Montreal bagels" with me.

They are simply the best! Moist, chewy, fresh, and always hot (if you buy them directly from St. Viateur shown here). I like mine with cream cheese and honey (or sometimes smoked salmon and capers).

I`ll never forget the first time in my life I tasted one: I was 17 and attending Dawson - someone brought in a bag of these, (plus the cream cheese), and I was hooked for life.

Nowadays, you can buy them just about everywhere (at your favorite Metro or IGA grocer), but hard core bagel addicts know that to really enjoy the bagel experience, you should buy them fresh as they come hot out of the clay oven - right here on St. Viateur street.
