Know this to be an evident truth: it took me twenty one years to take this photo. The reasons against are quite simple: the fog has never been quite right. Too thick, too thin, rainy, whatever. Once, years ago when I lived just down the road from it, I just knew I had the shot I had came for, only to find out that I had a film advance problem and a half-double exposure tripped me up. The fact that it was the last four frames on that roll further complicated matters coupled with my distinct lack of having. more. film. Duh... Never have I went out again with only four frames on a last roll, let me tell you.
Friends introduced me to this bridge in April, 1987, on the second day of my ongoing North Carolina residency. Whenever it's been foggy, or has called for it on the weather forecast, I've always tried to make it a point to travel here and see for myself. It is a 260 mile round-trip journey from my house to here.

Trestles like this one are not as wide-spread as you would think...

wow - great use of mist in your image, usually it makes things look flat and dead, but in this case it turns a boring shot into a lively and very awesome one

Excellent framing. I notice also the interesting double-gauge track, as if narrow-gauge trains also used this trestle. I applaud your patience, persistence, and vision.
