around where i live these guys have been
hanging around with the currawongs lately...
they form lil gangs and try to steal the
other animal's food
the other day i had to sit with a magpie
goose and watch him finish his feed or
otherwise if i walk away the currawongs +
bowerbirds would rule the place and actually
shoosh the magpie goose away from his brekky.
currawongs have been a pain in the arse
lately can't wait until they go away back to
the mountains again
amazingly enough i only remember seing 1
"bowerbird boy" , do you know what
the ratio boys to girl is?
the boys take seven years to get their
black/blue plumage. young boys look like
girls. if you get a good look you can pick an
immature boy as he gets a pale bill and green
throat. some black feathers can appear in the
fifth or sixth year.
yeah, they can both be ruthless when it comes
to food!
On the tangent of Currawongs and bullies, I
was sort-of pleased to see yesterday a
currawong being bullied. Doesn't happen often, and he was really
getting a hard time. Unfortunately (and not
surprisingly) the bullies were .... Noisy
Miners. I haven't seen a heirarchy of
bullies but Miners would have to be near the
top of the list.
