Yes, I am stupid enough to carry round mixed pounds and Euro coinage (and why does Euro need a capital when pounds doesn't? Probably because it ought to be British Sterling, but that takes longer to type).

	Martin Q says: euro should not have a capital and you will find that in Ireland it doesn't! No currency should have a capital. However you will also find that the plural of euro is, officially, euro. You don't add an "s". This was supposed to be true in the whole of Europe, but the French couldn't cope with that. The Irish add an "s" colloquially but you hear it without slightly more often. Apparently the Italians have a problem because masculine nouns ending in "o" (as most of them do) automatically become "i" in the plural, producing "euri" which sounds silly - not sure how they solved that one. Ah, of course, the German speakers in Germany, Austria etc have a capital on "ein Euro". But that's different - they have a capital on every single noun, so to not have one on "euro" would be plain daft. :D Posted 28 months ago. ( permalink )

But that's beside the point since the Irish really do say "ten euro" quite a lot. Point your internet audio to a commercial Irish radio station and I bet you'll hear commercials to prove me right. Mind you, googling phrases such as "ten euro" vs "ten euros" suggests that plural "euro" is a large minority, not the majority... although of course the internet is more populated with informal writing, I would wager. Personally, I think "ten euro" sounds more elegant. Perhaps this is because I mainly use the euro in Germany (although they also say "fünf Dollar" which doesn't make me want to say "five dollar")... or perhaps it's because "euro" was an adjective far longer than it's been a noun, and in English, adjectives don't decline.
