The Three Amigos
Sion and I are back from our trip!
The L.A. part was long, and there were a few days we were without a car -- which made the city even more boring than usual. But we did have a good time seeing some of our friends and my family at least. The San Francisco part was shorter, but much sweeter and quite action-packed. We both regretted not planning more days there. It was my fourth time in the city by the bay, and Sion's first. I was reminded why I loved the city so much (it has always been my 2nd choice U.S. city after NYC), and Sion was completely enchanted. We both felt that if we moved there we could be just as happy as we are in New York.
Unfortunately I didn't get to take that many pictures during the trip. I don't know why, but I kept forgetting my regular camera, while my iPhone rarely came out. I just let Sion be the documenter of our trip, and he has tons of images he'll no doubt be uploading in the days to come.
I did get a few shots in, though, that I'll be sharing here. This pic was one of my favorites -- taken in the heavily Latino area known as The Mission.

Man's Best Friend
They often say that a dog is a man's best friend -- but when you're a visually impaired person, that takes on a whole new meaning.
I always wonder what it must be like for one of these noble guide dogs. They often wear "Please don't pet me - I'm working" signs (this dog had one too, though you can't see it here). But while they might not get affection from strangers, they get all the love in the world from their owners. It's a very special bond between animal and human that always warms my heart whenever I see it.

Mr. Grumpy
Mr. Grumpy sat on a corner, watching another day go by him. People would constantly pass by, yet they would never look Mr. Grumpy in the eye.
But what most people didn't realize was Mr. Grumpy wasn't actually that grumpy at all. He tried to keep an upbeat spirit about everything in his life. Unfortunately he just had a grumpy-looking face and a permanent frown. And because of some bad dental work, it actually hurt him to smile -- so he tried not to do it much, even though he often wanted to.
He knew that people ignored him because of the way he looked, and he tried not to take it too personally. Although he still hoped that one day, someone would give him a chance and actually talk to him -- and see that he wasn't such a bad guy after all...
