salone ceiling, palazzo lauriaA part of the stucco in the salone has fallen, but shouldn't be too difficult to repair.
Uploaded on Dec 22, 2009 bedroom ceiling, palazzo lauriaThe ceiling in two of the bedrooms is perfect and pristine.
Uploaded on Dec 22, 2009 portal and courtyard, palazzo lauriaI love the back of this doorway, heavily reinforced against break-ins, and the little door cut into it. This past summer we hosted an evening of readings in this courtyard (before Antonio bought it), and we had about 150 people here.
Uploaded on Dec 22, 2009 room, palazzo lauriaPart of the palazzo has been separated out and made liveable -- three rooms of it. In this room, a lower wall divides this larger room into three: this dining space, a kitchen (behind the small white door bext to the door with the ornate wooden surround) and a bathroom (out of the photo).
Uploaded on Dec 22, 2009 main kitchen, palazzo lauriaI don't actually have a photo that does justice to this extraordinary room. It's huge and bright, and will be even brighter once we unblock the two upper windows. The central fireplace still works well -- in the niche to the left, under the window, is where the "stove" was: a brick structure you could put embers into and a pot on top of. To the right of the central fireplace is the bread oven. What you can't see in this photo: lots of great furniture, including two beautiful built-in cabinets from the eighteenth century, the niche for holding the water barrels (still with water barrels in it!), and a rack holding many copper pots, plus more antique tables, many unfortunately rather woodwormy.
