Hyenas are coming

In Harar (Ethiopia) there's a curious tradition of feeding hyenas, which are half domestic. At least they are afraid of people and harmless (which is really strange, as normally they are the most dangerous mammals in Africa, more people die from hyenas than from lions).

Origins of this tradition are little bit obscure, but the common story is that one time during severe drought hyenas became very aggressive, and people started feeding them to lure them out from attacking life stock or humans.

This tradition persist even today, every evening on the football field in the center of town people give out food to hyenas.

On picture you can see young boy, who is teasing hyenas by offering them empty pot. Poor animals kept coming and checking it every time, counting on getting some food finally.
