It was a bank holiday in England when we went to Galway and there seemed to be a gathering of Stag and Hen parties from all over the UK the 24 hours we were there.

This is what I was able to surmise from the few hours I was privy to this world:

1. Hen parties are license to dress slutty and must always contain a bevy of feather boas. Usually pink. Pink Cowboy hats are another requirement.

2. Stag parties let the inner nerd that these men barely hold in on a daily basis be fully expressed.

We saw these guys later hanging out drunk before noon with a couple of Magnum P.I.s. Those guys were smart enough to go with a stud-ish costume. Chewbacca would not be getting laid. I have a feeling his wife suggested that costume.

Full Disclosure: I made a Princess Leia costume (from Episode 4-not the naughty one) 12 years ago and wore it 3 Halloweens in a row. I too am a nerd.

This is way more upmarket, in Amsterdam they wear t-shirts that say "Gaz 2007 shag party" get drunk, smoke cannabis and visit prostitutes.

The women are classier though - they wear pink veils and white stilettos, hang out in restaurants before getting drunk in a bar, and on to a club. They don't throw up until at least 3am.

Russ-It's because you rightfully thought black face went the way of vaudeville. Apparently it's alive and not at all offensive in the eyes of very drunk and horny men on holiday.

Ronet-I forget to mention the pink sashes with clever sayings the ladies like to wear. They do that here as well, but can not hold their liquor like the UK and Europeans can. American hen parties have sick on them by 11:30PM with some sort of cat fight right before.

sounds like one of those fabled Vicars & Tarts parties i've heard so much about. then again, our own Halloween isn't much more than an excuse for similar adventures ...

    awww, Chewie!

Moxiee. There is nothing good about hen parties. I hate them. I went to one in Cardiff once and wound up fending off drunken Welsh-men all night. My friend made us wear "bunny ears" thinking we would look cute. We were just sitting ducks that were groped and felt up all night. Oh, and then i wound up knocking a guy out with a right-hook for man-handling me. My idea of a great night out. Not.
