Een jaar geleden waren er eind januari al knopjes van deze struik open... Dit jaar doen ze er net iets langer over, maar geef toe, met zo'n ijzig harnas om je heen valt het niet mee om te ontluiken.
One year ago, this shrub was blooming in my garden by the end of january. This year it takes him just a little longer. But you must admit, that it's not so simple, to open your buds when you live within a drop of ice...

The Cornus mas that lives near us, at the Royal Botanical Garden in Hamilton, Ontario, is still closed up tight for winter. (Early date in my records was April 9, 2007.)
