Anita, I haven't seen any of these on my river here or the Bay. Thanks for sharing the pic.

And you're not likely to! These were taken in the L.A. area, where they are uncommon but regular (most of them winter to the north in CA's Central Valley). They are very rare visitors to the East Coast. That's what's nice about Flickr -- you see all sorts of birds that aren't found in your area.

This is 1 from the archives -- I just cropped out the domestic geese so I could post it to the new Birdwatcher's Guide group. (I wish Flickr offered a cropping tool, so you wouldn't have to re-upload a cropped version, but no biggie.) But yeah, even in LA these were a good find -- life bird, very exciting.
Sparky, you have a couple of good bird shots -- I added tags, in case you want to post them to the group (we'd love the white-eye, & the BCNH is of course gorgeous). Feel free to delete 'em if you don't. (And notice, I didn't add Latin names. :-) )

Very nice....
We get one every year that hangs out with the Canada Geese at our pond.

Interesting -- maybe it's the same bird coming back every year.
