Kiskoros

    Serbian Gravestone, Kiskőrös, Hungary

Kiskőrös is a small town in the Great Hungarian Plains. The region has been inhabited since the Iron Age.
The Medieval village was destroyed in the Turkish wars. In the 16th century the landowners populated the village with Slovak, Serbian and Hungarian settlers. Kiskőrös is the birthplace of the Romantic Hungarian poet, Sándor Petőfi.

This old gravestone is in the courtyard of the Slovak Peasant House Museum. The inscription is damaged, several charachters are missing. Mr. Bozidar probably had a long life. He was likely born in 1709 and died in September of 1787, and now rests in peace.

Thanks to *Danica* for translating the inscription.
