Mile End station

This is Mile End station, on Mile End Road in London's East End. Originally opened in 1902, as part of the Whitechapel & Bow Railway, which used District Line trains, extending the existing line to Upminster, in Essex, the Hammersmith & City line (then known as the Metropolitan line) was added in 1936, and in 1946 the station was expanded and rebuilt as part of the extension of the Central Line. Photo taken on July 25, 2012, as I was cycling from Whitechapel to the Olympic Park in Stratford to have a look around and take photos just before the Olympic Games began.
