Roses are red, Violets are blue, We need our A&Es kept open by you
On Saturday February 16, 2013, at the end of a week of action to mark the formation of "Defend London's NHS," an unprecedented coalition of MPs, unions, campaigners, patients, doctors and other health workers, a rally was held in Hammersmith to oppose plans to close four of the nine A&E Departments in north west London -- at Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Ealing and Central Middlesex. As the Save Our Hospitals campaign explained, "Neighbouring hospitals such as Chelsea & Westminster, St,. Mary's, Hillingdon and Northwick Park, which are expected to take up the slack, are cutting beds."
At the end of the rally, in Lyric Square, campaigners marched up King Street to the Town Hall. As they set off, I photographed these campaigners leading the march, carrying this placard with its powerful message. I also like the smaller placard carried by the woman on the left.
